The answer lies in their durability, affordability, and timeless natural beauty. Granite is a cost effective natural stone countertop option that offers long term value. Quartz

IN FRANKLIN, TN

Quartz countertops are rapidly growing in popularity among homeowners in Franklin, TN and throughout Middle Tennessee, and for good reason. Engineered quartz offers a combination of durability, low maintenance, and modern style that makes it an excellent choice for kitchen countertops and bathroom vanities. One of the biggest advantages of quartz countertops is that they are non porous. Unlike natural stone such as granite, quartz does not require sealing because it does not absorb liquids, oils, or food spills. This makes quartz countertops highly stain resistant and easy to maintain. Its non porous surface also helps resist bacteria and moisture, making it a hygienic option for kitchens, bathrooms, and high traffic areas. Quartz is also highly customizable. Because it is an engineered stone made from natural quartz crystals combined with resins and pigments, it is available in a wide range of colors, patterns, and finishes. Whether you prefer a sleek modern white countertop, a marble look quartz design, or a bold contemporary style, there are quartz slab options to match your vision. The resins used in quartz fabrication also make the material more flexible than many natural stone countertops. This allows for smoother curves, seamless edges, integrated sink designs, and custom shapes that elevate the overall look of your space. With professional quartz fabrication and installation from The Granite Place in Franklin, TN, you can achieve a durable, stylish countertop solution built to last for years to come.

Quartzite

IN FRANKLIN, TN

Because quartz and quartzite sound similar, many homeowners in Franklin, TN ask the same question: what is the difference between quartz and quartzite countertops? While both are beautiful and durable options for kitchen and bathroom countertops, the main difference lies in how each material is formed. Quartz is an engineered stone countertop material. Natural quartz crystals are mined, ground into fine particles, and then combined with resins and pigments to create large, consistent slabs. This manufacturing process allows for uniform color, controlled patterns, and a wide range of design options. Quartz countertops are non porous, low maintenance, and ideal for indoor kitchen and bathroom installations. Quartzite, on the other hand, is a natural stone formed entirely by the Earth. It begins as sandstone that undergoes intense heat and pressure, transforming it into an extremely hard and durable stone. Quartzite slabs are mined in large blocks and cut into slabs, preserving their natural veining and organic beauty. Because it is a natural material, every quartzite countertop is unique and cannot be replicated exactly. Quartzite countertops offer the look of marble with durability similar to granite. They are highly resistant to heat and scratching, and many quartzite surfaces are also resistant to ultraviolet rays. This makes quartzite an excellent option for outdoor kitchen countertops, patio bars, and other exterior stone applications in addition to indoor kitchens and bathrooms. If you are deciding between quartz and quartzite countertops in Franklin, TN, The Granite Place can help you compare materials and choose the best stone fabrication option for your home or outdoor living space.

Dolomite

IN FRANKLIN, TN

Dolomite is a natural sedimentary stone formed from limestone and enriched with magnesium, often introduced through mineral rich water over time. This process gives dolomite its soft, light colored appearance, making it an excellent alternative to marble for homeowners in Franklin, TN who want a bright and elegant countertop surface. Dolomite countertops offer the classic beauty of marble with added durability. In many cases, dolomite is more resistant to scratching and cracking than traditional marble, making it a practical choice for busy kitchens and bathroom vanities. It delivers a refined, high end look while providing greater everyday performance. Compared to marble, dolomite is often a more affordable natural stone countertop option. This makes it a popular choice for homeowners who want the timeless appeal of a light, marble look countertop without the higher price point. With proper sealing and routine care, dolomite countertops can last for decades while maintaining their smooth finish and serene appearance. If you are considering dolomite countertop fabrication and installation in Franklin, TN, The Granite Place can help you select the right slab and create a custom stone surface that enhances both the beauty and functionality of your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you don't see your question answered below, just give us a call and we'll be happy to chat with you!

  • What is the difference between Quartz and Quartzite?

Quartzite is a natural stone. It is the toughest, most durable stone (not indestructible, it can still stain, chip, and scratch). Quartz is a man-made stone and is the second most durable stone. It is typically more expensive than Quartzite.

  • What are examples of natural stones?

Granite, Marble, Quartzite, Dolomite, and Soapstone are examples of natural stones. Due to the chemicals within the stone, a polished finish on natural stone may have spots that don’t shine. Natural stones are suggested for use inside since the elements may have a negative impact on natural stones.

  • What are the do's and don’ts for natural stone?

    • Don’t step on seams or ledges
    • Don’t use soap and water to clean since this can damage the sealant used.
    • Do use cleaners that are ammonia-free, granite/stone cleaners, like Windex.
  • What is an example of a man-made stone?

Quartz is an example of a man-made stone. If you’re looking for perfection, man-made stone is better for you. Quartz can be used indoors and outdoors.
