Countertop Installation Process
in Middle Tennessee
PLANNING FOR FAST SERVICE
At The Granite Place, we are committed to delivering a smooth and efficient countertop installation experience. Below is a step by step overview of our process, along with important guidelines to help your project stay on schedule.
For the fastest turnaround, please notify your sales representative as soon as your cabinet installation date is confirmed. When we are informed in advance, we can often complete your countertop installation within one week. Clear communication with your sales representative is essential. Any changes to your project must be communicated directly to your sales rep - not to the template technician or installation team.
BEFORE WE TEMPLATE
Templating is one of the most important steps in the process. In order to schedule and complete templating:
- Cabinets must be fully installed and secured.
- Farm sinks must be fully installed and in their final position by your cabinet or contractor team.
- Farm sinks cannot be moved after templating.
If anything is moved or adjusted after the template is created, it may delay your installation and require re-templating.
SLAB INSPECTION AND MATERIAL QUALITY
Once your slabs arrive, our fabricator carefully inspects them. It is our responsibility to inspect the slabs upon arrival - not the warehouse.
With natural stone in particular, there can occasionally be damage during transport. If a slab is damaged, our fabricator will determine whether it is suitable for your project. If it is not, we will notify you immediately and discuss next steps. This situation occurs most often with natural stone products.
PREPARING YOUR SPACE FOR INSTALLATION
To help ensure a smooth installation day, please review the following guidelines:
- Do not paint cabinets or walls before installation. Minor scratches or scuffs can occur during the installation process. This is normal. Painting beforehand may result in touch ups being needed.
- After installation is complete, you may cover the countertops before painting.
- Full height backsplashes, especially in natural stone, will always require small gaps. This is standard and allows for proper fit and expansion.
Please note that The Granite Place is not responsible for damages that may occur during the installation process.
COOKTOPS AND CUTOUTS
COOKTOPS ON SITE
Cooktops must be on site by the installation date to ensure accurate measurements and proper fit.
CUTTING GUIDELINES
- We can cut cooktop openings outside only if there is no seam in that section or if the material is quartz.
- For natural stone, cooktop openings must be cut inside after the countertop is fully installed. Cutting natural stone beforehand can cause the slab to break during installation.
AFTER INSTALLATION
NATURAL STONE COUNTERTOPS
- Natural stone countertops are sealed at the time of installation.
- Do not touch the surface or run water for 24 hours.
- Allow the sealer to fully cure before normal use.
QUARTZ COUNTERTOPS
- Quartz does not require sealing.
- No special curing time is needed beyond adhesive setting.
IMPORTANT USAGE GUIDELINES
- Never step or stand on your countertops.
- Avoid placing weight on sink areas, cooktop cutouts, or seam locations, as these are more vulnerable sections.
